We invest in change in people and organizations because seeding new ideas that have the potential to break through seemingly intractable problems is crucial to making a greater impact.
Leadership comes in many, many forms. Quiet, loud, creative, intellectual, charismatic, contemplative, young, and not-so-young. Through our awards programs, we shine a light on extraordinary individuals and organizations that are diving in and doing the hard work that inspires us all, and together are improving the community we all live in.
Thanks to the vision and generosity of our donors who created and endowed these awards with us at The San Francisco Foundation, each year we honor awardees who are a testament to the wonderfully complex, messy, long term, and diverse reach of The San Francisco Foundation. They represent a cross-section of Bay Area geographies, cultures, and innovations in service to social justice and change.
The San Francisco Foundation is proud to bestow artistic awards in literature, visual arts, and playwriting each year to artists who exemplify a commitment to the ever expanding notion of the essential role of art and artists in our world.
The San Francisco Foundation Community Leadership Awards celebrate visionary leaders doing extraordinary work to strengthen Bay Area communities. We honor leaders who, with courage, vision, compassion, discipline, and sheer love of community, devote themselves to turning obstacles into opportunities.
The Koshland Young Leader Awards recognize the next generation of leadership in our community, providing a two-year award of $7,000 to outstanding San Francisco public high school juniors who balance extraordinary family, economic, and societal pressures with the discipline required for academic excellence, and the drive to succeed at community leadership.
