The San Francisco Foundation Appoints David Friedman to Board Chair, C. Andy Ballard to Board of Trustees, and Sarah Stein and Janet McKinley to Investment Committee

FRANCISCO) – Tuesday, July 29, 2008 – The San Francisco Foundation announced today
the appointment of David Friedman as Chair of the Board of Trustees. C. Andy
Ballard was named to its Board of Trustees, and Janet McKinley and Sarah Stein joined
the Investment Committee.
David Friedman has been
appointed the Chair of the Board of Trustees of The San Francisco Foundation
(TSFF). Mr. Friedman has been a member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees
since 2004, previously serving as its vice chair, and is currently a senior
principal and chair of the board of directors of Forell/Elsesser
Engineers. Warren Hellman, former Board Chair, said, “David Friedman will be a terrific Chair of the Foundation. He is
intelligent, thoughtful, charitable, is steeped in the community issues and, in
short, will be an outstanding leader.” Mr.
Friedman serves as chair of the board of Muldaw Senior Residences and as
trustee of the Jewish Home and Senior Living Foundation. He is a trustee of the
UC Berkeley Foundation, a trustee and treasurer of the Friedman Family
Foundation, and vice president of the board of directors of the Architectural
Foundation of San Francisco. He was formerly on the boards of San Francisco Day
School and Asian Neighborhood Design. Mr. Friedman’s appointment as
Chair of the Board of Trustees became effective July 1, 2008. He succeeds
Tatwina Lee, who remains active with The San Francisco Foundation as a Trustee.
The
Foundation welcomes new Trustee C. Andy Ballard, an experienced leader in the
investment and technology communities. Mr. Ballard is a Managing Director at
Hellman & Friedman and also serves as a Director of Activant Solutions,
Inc., Catalina Marketing Corporation, Getty Images, Inc., and Vertafore, Inc. Prior
to joining Hellman & Friedman in 2004, Mr. Ballard was formerly a Director
of DoubleClick, Inc. and was employed by Bain Capital in San Francisco and
Boston. Mr. Ballard graduated cum laude from Harvard College and earned
an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. The appointment will be
effective September 1, 2008.
Sarah E. Stein has been
appointed to the Investment Committee at The San Francisco Foundation. Ms.
Stein is a Managing Director and Deputy Director of Research at Hall Capital
Partners LLC, focusing on investments, group strategy, and discretionary
mandates. Previously, she was at Goldman Sachs & Company and the Fisher
Foundation. She has served on numerous nonprofit and philanthropic boards,
including the KIPP Academy and Princeton University. She holds degrees from
Princeton and Stanford Universities.
Janet McKinley has also
recently joined the Investment Committee at the Foundation. Ms. McKinley serves
as Chair of Oxfam America and is on the boards of Oxfam International, Smith
College, the Deutsche Bank Microfinance Consortium Fund, MicroCredit Enterprise,
and The Synapse Market Access Fund. She graduated summa cum laude from
Smith College (Phi Beta Kappa) and attended the University of Krakow, Poland,
as a Fulbright Scholar. She also attended the New York University Graduate
School of Business.
