(SAN FRANCISCO) – Friday, September 10, 2010 – The San Francisco Foundation today announced a $100,000 grant to launch The San Francisco Foundation San Bruno Relief Fund.  These funds, along with individual donor contributions, will be directed to nonprofit organizations in San Bruno providing disaster relief services. The Fund was established in response to the gas line explosion on Thursday, September 9, 2010, that killed four people, injured many, and destroyed dozens of homes in a San Bruno neighborhood. The community is encouraged to make donations through The San Francisco Foundation website:  www.sff.org.

Sandra R. Hernández, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of The San Francisco Foundation toured the disaster site today, with California First Lady Maria Shriver, and California Secretary of Service and Volunteering, Karen Baker. The state website directs donors to The San Francisco Foundation San Bruno Relief Fund, as well as to the Red Cross.

"The San Francisco Foundation expresses our regret at the sudden and tragic explosion that occurred in San Bruno. We stand ready to partner with the many public and community-based agencies that are working to support those families and neighbors who have been affected by this tragedy." Dr. Hernández said.
