The San Francisco Foundation Grants $285,000 to McClymonds Youth and Family Center
(SAN FRANCISCO) – Tuesday, July 24, 2007– The San Francisco Foundation (TSFF) announced today that 7 grants totaling $285,000 will be given to the McClymonds Youth and Family Center (MYFC) in support of out-of-school-time health, social, academic, and youth development services for students and their families at the McClymonds Educational Complex (MEC) in West Oakland.
Founded at the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year, the MYFC is an innovative collaboration of school-linked support service providers located at the McClymonds Educational Complex and anchored by the Chappell Hayes Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center operated by Children’s Hospital and Research Center. The MYFC offers programming in academic support and attainment, health and wellness, violence prevention and physical arts, culture and expression, life options, leadership, advocacy and service, and family services.
The MYFC grants are:
Bay Area Video Coalition
To provide offerings in video and music to the students of the McClymonds Educational Complex that will focus on technical training, strategic planning for personal training, youth development, product development, project-based curriculum, and integration into the formal school day learning environment.

Leadership Excellence
To provide youth at high risk of suspension, expulsion, or academic failure with a series of transformational camps, youth support groups, leadership training, and intensive case management services.

Regents of the University of California
To continue year four evaluation of the McClymonds Youth and Family Center at the McClymonds Educational Complex in West Oakland.

Strategic Plan Objective: Academic Achievement 05+
To provide academic assistance in a safe and nurturing environment that fosters academic success, to students of BEST and EXCEL before and after school at the McClymonds Educational Complex.

To enhance the college-going culture oat McClymonds Educational Complex through college resource counseling and a college resource center.

Young Life
To continue the Nikao’s Mentor Enrichment Program, which provides year-round moral and ethical assistance to 32 underserved youth between grades 6-12 in the McClymonds Educational Complex.

Youth Engaged in Leadership and Learning
To encourage leadership, voice, civic engagement, and positive youth development through the Youth Engaged in Leadership and Learning (YELL) program at the McClymonds Educational Complex.
