We live in one of the most resourceful regions in the world, full of natural beauty, brilliant ideas, and generous people. Yet here in the Bay Area, just a few blocks away from thriving neighborhoods are areas of profound poverty where families and young people struggle for basic opportunities. This extraordinary time in history calls for courageous leadership and transformative ideas.
We invite you to join us in two strategies that bring together the best ideas and the most effective leaders. The One Community Fund and the Women and Girls Fund provide targeted and tangible opportunities for the most vulnerable in our region.
Women and Girls Fund
Women play pivotal roles as agents of change in their communities and societies. With resources and opportunities, women can strengthen families, communities, and our democracy. The San Francisco Foundation’s Women and Girls Fund accelerates this social change by investing in women and girls. Through economic empowerment, self-expression and esteem training, reproductive rights, and freedom from domestic violence, together we can improve the possibilities for women and girls, and thereby lift up the entire community.
The Women and Girls Fund weaves together the elements that give women and girls critical opportunities. We have identified these three focus areas to have the greatest impact in bettering the lives of women and girls: leadership and empowerment, economic sustainability, and health and safety.
To sow the seeds for long-term empowerment, we partner with effective Bay Area nonprofits that focus in these areas, and have a track record of helping women and girls not only overcome crises, but build skills and power, and seize economic opportunities for the future.
One Community Fund
Economic hardship is complex, and requires equally complex solutions. The One Community Fund is a two-pronged strategy to strengthen the safety net for immediate needs and a long-term response to alleviate poverty.
For more than six decades, we have forged partnerships with leaders, neighborhoods, organizations, and policymakers to build strategic collaboratives, and affect tremendous change. We believe a multifaceted response is required to ensure economic opportunity for all in the Bay Area. With the One Community Fund, what we began together three years ago to strengthen the safety net continues with recession recovery and job training. We are diligent not only in our response to confront critical needs, but also in identifying effective systems for long term success.
Our unique vantage point, having a team of issue experts and partners across sectors, means that we can identify and implement strategies that provide necessary support now and create models for long-term change.
