San Francisco Business Times’ 2011 Corporate Philanthropy Awards

Corporate giving in 2010 in the San Francisco Bay Area made a remarkable 30% jump to $245 million compared to the previous year. The San Francisco Business Times celebrated the 11th annual Corporate Philanthropy Awards on July 20th, and San Francisco Foundation CEO Sandra R. Hernández, M.D., joined Mary Huss, Business Times publisher, and Carla Javits, president of REDF, in a discussion about the local philanthropic scene.

Dr. Hernández acknowledged that in all her years at the Foundation, she had "never seen such dramatic shifts within the nonprofit sector … a very dramatic time of realignment." Carla Javits reminded the audience that giving to programs that alleviate poverty remains the smallest slice of the philanthropy pie.
