Responding to Chilean Communities in Need
A magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck the coast of Chile on Saturday, February 27th. Initial reports indicate that up to 2 million people are in need of shelter and that more than 700 were killed in the quake. Assessments by the Chilean government agencies, United Nations agencies, and international relief organizations are currently underway to determine the nature and level of need for humanitarian and rebuilding assistance.
The San Francisco Foundation will continue to monitor the situation, including how donors might effectively assist those in need, and we will keep you updated through our website. If you would like more information, please contact our Philanthropic Services team at 415.733.8500.
