Join The San Francisco Foundation in Supporting Proposition A to Save San Francisco General Hospital
Proposition A, the general obligation bond measure on the November ballot in San Francisco, will build a new seismically safe San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH). The measure authorizes an $887,400,000 bond to rebuild SFGH without a net increase in the city’s debt load or property tax burden.
SFGH is a critical component of our city’s public health system that we must protect. After careful consideration, The San Francisco Foundation leadership is endorsing this measure because we recognize that SFGH is critical to the health of our community, and we are confident that everything possible has been done to ensure the city will deliver the new hospital building on time and on budget. The up-front design, pricing, and government regulatory work has been diligently completed to assure construction will begin swiftly after approval of Proposition A and will finish on schedule.
SFGH serves as the City’s major safety-net hospital, providing quality care to the city’s low-income and vulnerable communities. In addition, SFGH has the only level 1 Trauma Center in the city, providing 24/7 comprehensive coverage that includes access to top-notch neurosurgeons, critical care specialists, and other highly specialized services that are available to everyone in the case of a life-threatening event or injury. Proposition A would allow SFGH to continue to provide these crucial services as well as play a pivotal role in the event of a major disaster.
