The San Francisco Foundation and California State University East Bay invite you to join us on Wednesday, January 12th for
Moving the Needle: Emerging Trends in Math and Science Education
Sandra R. Hernández, M.D., chief executive officer of The San Francisco Foundation, and Mohammad H. Qayoumi, Ph.D., president of California State University East Bay, will be joined by a panel of distinguished leaders in philanthropy, business, and higher education to discuss the importance of math and science education as a means to achieve education equity in our region.
Despite modest gains in recent years, K-12 students in California and the East Bay continue to lag well behind the national average in subjects critical to their academic achievement: math, science, and related subjects. California ranks in the lowest quartile of student achievement in math and science nationally, according to Addressing the Achievement Gap in STEM Disciplines for Underserved Communities by California State University and California State University, East Bay. Only 4% of California high school graduates continue on to graduate with a college degree in a science or engineering field, according to the California Postsecondary Education Commission.
Bay Area public, private, and corporate funders and donors are encouraged to join us for this important event.
Continental breakfast and valet parking will be provided.
