Exclusive and Urgent Briefing: How LGBT People and Our Allies Can Defeat Proposition 8

Proposition 8 would re-write our California Constitution to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. Its passage in November would erase the long-sought, recently-won right for same-sex couples to marry and, for the first time in this state’s history, inscribe a denial of rights in the Constitution itself. Both The San Francisco Foundation and Horizons Foundation are proud funders of the marriage equality movement, and have committed substantial resources to help defeat Proposition 8 this November.

This event will introduce you to the leaders of the movement—as well as the “hired guns” who design and execute the strategy for this critical civil rights campaign.

Please join us to learn more about how you can be meaningfully involved. This briefing is a rare chance to hear from the two key consultants retained to chart the path to defeating Proposition 8 statewide, Steve Smith and Dale Kelly Bankhead. Both of them have decades of experience with California initiative processes. Geoff Kors, Executive Director of Equality California and Member of the Executive Committee of No on 8, will also be present.

Lunch will be served.
