Budget Reform 2012: Voter Education and Mobilization to Shape a More Equitable Economy
The San Francisco Foundation will host a morning of discussion, learning, and strategic
thinking about current government revenue challenges and ways we can
shape our shared future in the coming election year.
Budget Reform 2012:
2012 promises to be a year of legislative, electoral, and fiscal
challenges that may shape years of budgetary activities. Governments at
all levels will be faced with further cuts and reduced spending on
education, health, environmental, and social service programs.
Mark Baldassare, president and CEO of Public Policy Institute of
California, will give an overview of the state budget, policy and
revenue vehicles, as well as crosscutting issues such as redistricting,
demographic changes, and expected voter turnout. Following his
presentation, we will hear from some of our grantees about their goals
and strategies for 2012. We will close out the morning with a focus on
voter registration, education, and mobilization that ensures full
participation of low-income and disfranchised communities.
