Briefing: Responding to the Crisis in Burma

We are hosting an emergency briefing for professional advisors, clients, and donors about relief and recovery needs, and effective philanthropic strategies in response to the crisis in Burma. The program is co-hosted by Give2Asia, The Foundation for the People of Burma, and The San Francisco Foundation. If you or your clients are interested in supporting the relief efforts in Burma, we encourage you to attend the briefing or dial in.

Speakers will provide an up-to-date status report with the latest on-the-ground information. Experts in cross-border philanthropy will discuss the options available for supporting relief efforts in the affected region. Speakers include:

• Gail Seneca, Director and Treasurer of the Foundation for the People of Burma
• Barnett Baron, Executive Vice President of the Asia Foundation
• Jill S. Dodd, an estate planning and nonprofit attorney with Manatt, Phelps & Philips, LLP

The speakers will discuss:

• Overview of Burma/Myanmar and update regarding relief and recovery efforts Legal and tax issues related to international giving
• Overview of philanthropic options for clients who want to support relief and recovery
• The U.S. response to the disaster, political climate, and legal sanctions
